Gunmen rob Mandalay bank customer of 100 million kyats

A man depositing money in a KBZ bank branch in Mandalay was robbed of 100 million kyats ($54,000 USD) by four gunmen on 2 May.

The incident happened on the corner of 64th street and Manaw Hari Road, in Mandalay’s Chanmyathazi Township.

“The robbers had guns and had been waiting for their target… They robbed him in front of the bank. They threatened him with the guns, seized the money and fled”, said a local resident who lives close to the bank.

According to witnesses, the victim’s car was parked across the road from the bank and the gunmen took the bag of money as the bank employee was transferring the money from the car to the bank.

According to junta media sources the four gunmen stole 100 million kyats from the bank customer.

Though soldiers and police are patrolling Mandalay the city is no longer safe because of the consequences of the coup. Since the coup robberies have become a common occurrence.
