Government contributes more than $250 million to buy Covid-19 vaccine

The Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry (MOPFI) released a statement on 5 January that the government has provided more than USD $250 million to fund purchase of COVID-19 vaccines in Myanmar.

Fund Management Sub-committee on the Purchase of COVID-19 Vaccines has opened a vaccine procurement bank account at the Myanmar Economic Bank in Nay Pyi Taw. According to the statement, the MOPFI mentioned the foreign currency account was opened with an initial deposit of $250 million and the Myanmar currency account with 1 billion kyats.

Local and foreign donors can donate any kind of money to these accounts. After the government announced the fundraising, Chit Khaing, a Myanmar businessman and chairman of the Eden Business Group, donated US $ 1.5 million as his January 5 birthday gift.

Donations for the Covid-19 vaccine have been accepted from January 6, and donations and information will be available on the ministry's website or will be announced by the state-owned newspaper said Daw Si Si Pyone, director general of the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry (MOPFI) .
