Five prominent actors charged under Section 505-A of the penal code were released from Insein Prison on 2 March, according to a lawyer representing the actor Paing Takhon.

“Pyay Ti Oo, Eaindra Kyaw Zin, Lu Min, Paing Takhon and Wine will be released. They will be released early in the morning. Paing Takhon has returned home”, Paing Takhon’s attorney Khin Maung Myint said to Mizzima on 1 March.

The director Wine, who was arrested on the morning of 9 February at his apartment in Pazundaung Township, was also no longer being investigated, he added.

Similarly, imprisoned beauty blogger Win Min Than, who was not among the released, has had the charges against her under section 505-A dropped, but she is still facing a charge under the Unlawful Associations Act for joining the anti-regime movement.

Four of the released artists were arrested last year. Lu Min was arrested in March, whilst Eaindra Kyaw Zin, Pyay Ti Oo and Paing Takhon were arrested in April.
