Five hundred civilians flee fighting in Tanintharyi township village

After clashes between Myanmar junta troops and People Defense Forces, about 500 local people have lost their homes in Theindaw village, Myeik district in the Tanintharyi region and fled to safety on 31 March, according to local reports.

During the clashes, four people were killed and two injured by the junta troops, said a spokesperson for the People’s Defense Force.

An official from the Non-Aligned guerrilla group said: "They suffered lots of damages and loss of lives in this fight which was happened in 31st of March. That’s why they are still scouting on a reconnaissance aircraft this morning."

Currently, the Myanmar junta troops are stationed near the village where the clashes occurred and from where the local residents fled.

"Approximately 500 refugees are at somewhere safe and they can’t return to their village because junta troops have stationed near that village,” said a local PDF member.
