A combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and local People's Defence Forces (PDFs) have been fighting with Junta troops near the Bawdwin Dam in Namtu Township, Northern Shan State.

The junta forces have been using artillery in the battle.

Junta Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 324 was firing artillery into the battlefield. The sound of gunshots and artillery were heard in Namtu Town, according to a resident there.

“Every ten minutes, Light Infantry Battalion 324 was firing artillery into the battle area. We have been hearing the sound of gunshots since early morning,” said the resident.

The death toll from the fighting is currently unknown.
