Electricity department district chief shot dead at home in Kale township

The district chief of the electricity department, who was living in a house in the compound of the Kale Electricity office, Sagaing region was shot dead by unknown gunmen, according to local people.

U Myint Aung Naing, the district chief of the electricity department, was shot at around 4 pm on January 9 and taken to a 100-bed military hospital.

"I heard three gunshots and that they entered his house and shot," said a Kale township resident. “He reportedly died on the spot.”

A local resident said that employees from City Development Department, Internal Revenue Department and the Electricity Office with security provided by junta troops, collected electricity meter fees, business license tax, property tax and land taxes.

"He was 53 years old. His native town is Yin Mar Pin. He has recently moved from Naypyidaw," the resident said.
