Chairman of Kachin National Congress faces two more lawsuits

Kachin National Congress (KNC) Chairman Dr. M Kawn La has been charged with another two lawsuits under section 505 (a) of the Penal Code at No. (1) Police station, Myitkyina Township in Kachin State, according to a source of Kachin National Congress (KNC) on 31 March.

After arriving in Myitkyina from Nay Pyi Taw, Dr. M Kawn La faces legal suits at No. (1) Police Station in Myitkyina Township.

He had also been sentenced to two years in prison under the section 505 (a) of the Penal Code at Nay Pyi Taw’s Zabuthiri Township on 23 May 2021.

In spite of the fact that he was sentenced to prison at Nay Pyi Taw’s Zabu Thiri court, he was charged with lawsuits again at No. (1) Police Station in Myitkyina Township on 26 August 2021. Therefore, he will probably face charges this month, before the traditional Thingyan Water Festival, according to the post on the KNC Facebook page.

Because of his criticism on his social media account about the military junta’s brutal activities and Chinese investments such as Nankyin economic development zone in Kachin State, and the Chinese government’s Belt and Road Initiative, he was arrested by the junta while he was on his way home from his office in Nay Pyi Taw on 25 August 2021.

Moreover, Dr. M Kawn La formed the Kachin People Political Fronts (KPPF) after the military coup. He is known for giving lectures about politics, economics and environmental and natural resources in Kachin State.
