Case registered against two youths who led Karen Martyr’s Day ceremony

Kyauktada Township police station registered a case against two Karen youths for organizing Karen Martyr’s Day ceremony on August 12 in front of Maha Bandoola Square, Yangon under section 20 of Peaceful Assembly and Marching in Procession Law.

Policemen from Kyauktada Myoma police station arrested the two Karen youths Saw Sa Qua La and Sa Thein Zaw Min while they were holding the ceremony.

The youths who organized the ceremony said that they had already informed the authorities on August 9 about holding the ceremony from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and held it in accordance with guidelines and precautionary measures adopted by the Ministry of Health for COVID-19 pandemic prevention. But the police force only granted them permission until 11 a.m. so the police arrested the leaders.
