British MPs have reaffirmed calls to grant Myanmar nationals in the UK ‘protected status’, Politics.co.uk reported.

In a special report published on the “UK Government’s Response to the Myanmar Crisis”, the House of Commons foreign affairs committee reaffirmed the recommendations of its original report, published in July, which said the government must introduce ‘protected status’ for Myanmar nationals in the UK unable to renew their visas.

It also argued that the government should treat the National Unity Government of Myanmar-a group of elected lawmakers and members of parliament ousted in February’s coup- as a ‘government-in-waiting’.
