Bombs and chants of ‘No’ greet Cambodian PM’s visit to Myanmar

Protesters in Myanmar and abroad have been speaking out against the Cambodian PM Hun Sen’s two-day visit to Myanmar to meet the generals who illegally took power 11 months ago.

In Mandalay at least six bombs were detonated, including an attack on a Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) office, according to the Dragon Rangers Mandalay (DRM), a Mandalay-based People’s Defence Force.

Across Myanmar the message was - “Say ‘No’ to Hun Sen”. People across the country protested the visit of the new ASEAN chair, Hun Sen.

In Launglon, Tanintharyi Region, high school students staged a highly visible protest against the strongman, one day before his visit to Naypyidaw, according to DVB.

Civilians, including a number of monk groups, in Mandalay, Yangon, and many townships of Sagaing participated in the “Never Ever Let ‘Hun Sen’ Set Foot in Myanmar” campaign, during which pictures of Hun Sen were set alight and trampled on by protestors.

The protesters expressed concern that Hun Sen’s visit would legitimize the Myanmar junta in international diplomatic circles.
