Bomb at Yephyu Township High School disrupts Grade 11 exams

A bomb exploded at Yephyu Township High School in Dawei District in Thanintharyi Region at 8:30 a.m. on 1 April, according to local residents.

The bomb exploded near the campus as students were preparing to enter the matriculation exam room. This was the second day of the University Entrance Examination or Matriculation Examination which was held by the Military Council, a local resident said.

When the students were preparing to sit for the English subject Grade-11 exam administered by the military council, the bomb exploded near the school building, a local said.

“The explosion was very loud. I was shocked, but there are no causalities,” said a Yephyu resident, noting that the students were preparing to sit for the English subject Grade-11 exam.

Junta troops, police and the fire brigade provide security near the high school.

The residents said Military Council troops opened fire after the blast and searched some houses near the school.

A total of 99 students were preparing for the University Entrance Examination or Matriculation Examination.

Meanwhile, universities will open the first year’s classes in November for students who pass the matriculation exam in the 2021-2022 academic year, according to the education ministry.
