Myanmar military media have announced a Myanmar junta amnesty for Aung San Suu Kyi, former president Win Myint and over 7,000 prisoners at midday today, according to Myanmar’s military Myawaddy TV.

At this point in time, the status of Aung San Suu Kyi and Win Myint is not known.

A total 0f 7,749 prisoners have reportedly been released, a mix of political and normal prisoners.

The Myanmar authorities appear to have pardoned Aung San Suu Kyi over five cases and Win Myint over two cases, but this still leaves them in custody.

"Chairman of State Administration Council pardons Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who was sentenced by the relevant courts," the Myanmar junta broadcast said.

Over the last week, there have been reports that Aung San Suu Kyi and Win Myint had been removed from prison and put under house arrest in Naypyidaw. Rumours have circulated that Aung San Suu Kyi has been sent to stay in her lakeside house in Yangon, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Yesterday, the Myanmar junta announced a six-month extension of the state of emergency.
