ASEAN's chair Cambodia says the Myanmar junta's Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin will not be invited to attend the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in Phnom Penh this month, VOA reports.

The junta foreign minister cannot come as there has been little progress with ASEAN's 5-Point Consensus, according to Cambodian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Chum Sounry, speaking with VOA.

The meeting of the 10-member bloc is due to be held February 16-17.

Sounry says Myanmar has been asked to send a "non-political" representative to the meeting, VOA reports.

Some members of the Association of South East Asian Nations reportedly looked askance at the recent visit January 7-8 of Cambodian PM Hun Sen to Naypyitaw, as it was seen as a lone venture without the backing of ASEAN member states.

Hun Sen said he had been trying to help bring peace to conflict-ridden Myanmar and was concerned about the danger of ASEAN in effect losing one of its members.
