Anti-Myanmar junta election protest held in Israel

Members of the Myanmar community in Israel held a protest against the Myanmar junta’s planned elections outside the Myanmar embassy in Tel Aviv, on 16 January.

“Over 30 of us peacefully expressed our opposition to the junta’s fake election scheduled for August 2023”, one of the protesters said.

The junta-controlled Yangon Region Field Census Supervision Committee announced that it would conduct a population census from 9 to 31 January, because it is needed for the election.

So far, the junta has only been able to conduct the census in a few cities, as much of the population is opposed to the elections and so is refusing to take part in the census.

The elections are also opposed by the Myanmar diaspora around the world.
