5.9 magnitude quake hit’s Myanmar’s Keng Tung

A 5.9 on the Richter scale earthquake was recorded 29 kilometres from Keng Tung in Shan State in Myanmar this morning, striking at 8:37 am.

The quake was also felt in Thailand’s Chiang Mai metro area, with residents reporting the shaking of buildings.

No reports have come through yet of any damage or injuries as of this reporting time.

Quakes are relatively common in the area. A 4.2 level quake hit Keng Tung in June of this year, according to Myanmar’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Myanmar is one of the most seismically active regions in the world, with the Shan plateau being an area of common seismic activity.
