2 killed, 1 injured in gun fight among local militia members in Myawady

An exchange of gun fires took place among members of Karen Border Guard Force (KBGF) at the security post near No.1 Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge in Myawady Township, Kayin State, on 1 July.

Two members were killed and one injured in the incident, according to the report by the Karen Information Centre.

“The gunshots occurred around 1 am on 1 July. We could not reach the scene at that time due to curfew”, said a resident near the bridge.

While security measure were being taken by 10 members from No. 1019 battalion under No.4 cantonment of the local border guard force at the bridge, the leader of security post, Sergeant Ae Wah, shot private Saw Maung Aye. The latter died at the scene.

The former also fired at another private, Aung Ko Ko, who received a serious injury and was taken to the local hospital.

The sergeant shot himself, according to the KIC report.
