180 IDPs in northern Shan State test positive for COVID-19

About 180 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps in Kyaukme, northern Shan State, tested positive for COVID-19, according to local sources.

Up to 12 September, the infected figure was more than 10 percent of the total population at the camps, with146 at the Mankyaung camp.

Meanwhile, over 1,500 locals were forced to take refuge in towns and safe areas due to armed clashes among militia groups.

Pregnant women and children are among the positive patients.

Since 6 September, tests and containment measures have been carried out at IDP camps.

There are a total of 1,198 cases of COVID-19 and 65 deaths, and 763 persons had recovered in Kyaukme Township by 13 September.
