16.5 kilograms of heroin seized in Shan state

Myanmar authorities seized 16.5 kilograms of heroin in Shan state, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Sunday, Xinhua reported.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint anti-narcotic police confiscated heroin worth over 240 million kyats (over 179,104 U.S. dollars) from a vehicle along with one suspect in Lashio township on Saturday.

According to a latest release issued by the President's Office, a total of 1,498 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 2,293 people were charged in connection with the cases as of Jan. 9 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018.
