In the month of October 134 civilians, including 32 children and 14 women were killed in Myanmar, according to figures issued by the shadow National Unity Government’s (NUG) Ministry of Justice.

The region with the highest number of child deaths in October was Kachin State where 18 children were reported killed. Children were also reported killed during October in Kayah, Chin, and Shan states, and the regions of Sagaing, Magway, Bago, and Tanintharyi.

"Children are being targeted and killed by the junta's heavy weaponry and air assaults,” said an analyst from the NUG Ministry of Justice’s Department of Law Enforcement and Transitional Justice.

Of the 14 women killed in October, the majority of deaths were in Sagaing Region, according to the NUG’s Ministry of Justice.

A woman from Khin-U Township said: "The junta soldiers frequently engage in sexual violence against women, often leading to the tragic death of these women. When junta soldiers come across girls, they commit arbitrary acts of rape, and afterward, the victims are brutally harmed and killed. Women's lives are perilous during these ongoing battles.”

As well as the deaths, 186 civilians, including 33 children, were injured throughout Myanmar during October, according to the NUG’s Ministry of Justice.

It also said that 94 civilians were arrested nationwide in October. Of those, seven were children and some of those were under the age of five.

On average more than 100 civilians are killed every month in Myanmar, according to the NUG’s Ministry of Justice.
