Two police officers were injured in a remote-controlled mine attack near an entrance of the Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Terminal, in Yangon’s Mingalardon Township, on 1 April.

God's Hand Force (GHF), part of the Yangon Urban Guerrilla Association (YUGA) claimed responsibility for the explosion, which happened near the bus terminal’s entrance gate (2) at 9:10 a.m.

According to a statement by the YUGA, two police officers were injured in the attack and all the GHF fighters who took part in the attack were able to retreat safely without suffering any injuries.

“We conducted the attack on the junta forces security checkpoint, while a combined force of soldiers and traffic police were inspecting vehicles and extorting money from drivers.” Among two injured police officers, one of them was reportedly known to be a municipal police officer”, said Sayar Kyaung, a senior member of GHF.

According to junta telegram channels a police officer was injured in the leg by the explosion.

He also explained that it had been hard to carry out the attack without hurting civilians because it had taken place in a crowded area.

Immediately after the attack junta security forces carried out inspections in the vicinity of the explosion, but by evening everything had returned to normal, according to witnesses.

The attack was in retaliation to a deadly crackdown on pro-democracy groups by the military junta, according to YUGA.

The group also said that it would be carrying out more missions against the junta and its assets, including junta-affiliated venues, military checkpoints and city gates. It also told people not to attend events organised by the junta at the Tingyan water festival.
