Three coordinated attacks in Sagaing’s Kalay Township kill seven soldiers

Seven Myanmar soldiers were killed and more than five were injured in a series of three coordinated attacks In Sagaing Region’s Kalay Township on 10 May, according to a Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) statement.

The CNDF and other coalition forces, including the People Defense Force (Kalay), the Civilian Resistance Group (CSS), and the Guerilla Resistance Force (GRF) launched three separate attacks on military units located in Taungphila, Sannmyo and Tahan wards, in Kalay Township on 10 May, according to the 11 May CNDF statement.

At 8 p.m. the CNDF attacked a military unit stationed in a four-story building located in Taungphila Ward in Kalay Township and killed six junta soldiers.

At 10 p.m. some of the coalition forces attacked the junta’s narcotics suppression office in Sanmyo ward. The fighting lasted for 30 minutes, one junta soldier was killed and another three were injured.

At the same time, 10 p.m., two other columns of coalition forces attacked a military unit near the Naykyar Building, in Tahan Ward. Two military personnel were injured and the coalition forces withdrew without any casualties.

“We were worried that shells might land on our roof. We hear gunfire every night. I am always praying that all of the innocent civilians and resistance forces who fight for us stay safe and that the dictators fail,” a resident who lives near to the conflict told Mizzima.

The junta troops retaliated against the attacks by firing heavy weapons.

A shell hit a karaoke restaurant near Tahan Market at around 10:30 p.m. The blast damaged the roof and upper floor of the restaurant, and the owner and their young daughter suffered minor injuries to their arms but neither are in a critical condition.
