The National Unity Government (NUG)

 

  • In the junta leader’s trip to Mawlamyine, a military convoy from Beelin took security. On Monday, it was attacked with mines by a combined force of the KNLA. According to the NUG Ministry of Defence, the second township police officer Aung Myint Soe died.
  • In a meeting with the NUG Minister of Federal Affairs on Tuesday, the Mayor of Wanju County stated that the South Korean government would support Myanmar on its path to democracy.
  • At a United Nations meeting on Tuesday, Myanmar’s Ambassador, U Kyaw Moe Tun, said that the military junta had signed a contract with a Russian company to build a small-scale nuclear power plant in the next few years.
  • On Monday, there was an online meeting between the Education Committee under Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the NUG Ministry of Education. Reportedly, they discussed matters related to higher education, basic education and vocational training.
  • The NUG Ministry of Education expressed their sorrow for U Saw Tun Moe, the CDM teacher was ruthlessly killed and decapitated by the junta army in Thitnyinaung Village in Pauk Township in Magwe Region.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, there was a graduation at a community-based school for interim basic education supported by the NUG on Tuesday.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Yangon, there were two bomb explosions in the parcel department of Insein Prison on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, eight people, including three staff members, died and 18 others were injured.
  • At the entrance gate to Insein Prison, there was a bomb explosion on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, there were some casualties among the staff. Due to the wild gunfire of the junta army, some civilians were hit with bullets as well.
  • In the bomb explosion at Insein Prison on Wednesday morning, the mother of Ko Lin Htet Naing, a former member of Central Executive Committee of All Burma Students' Democratic Front, was injured and died.
  • After two bombs had exploded in Insein Prison on Wednesday morning, another unexploded bomb was found and it was made safe by the security forces.
  • To raise the momentum of the revolution in Yangon, To Comrades has been carrying out a fund-raising campaign.
  • In Yangon Region, 14 young people, who had run away from Thanlyin Juvenile detention center, set up Y14 (Youths Fourteen) on Tuesday.
  • According to Yangon’s Khit Thit Media, Myanmar female domestic workers have been facing troubles in Dubai and Oman, and the brokers have failed to take responsibility for the problems. Some brokers threatened the media and said that they would not be accountable for such workers and that they would have the workers arrested when they return to Myanmar by saying they were taking part in the CDM.
  • Amidst a lack of security in Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday morning.
  • On the Kalay-Tamu Road, the junta armed forces were attacked with mines on Monday morning. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.
  • In Myinmu Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines near Tisaung Village at about 7:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among junta soldiers.
  • On the Shwebo-Mandalay Road, a military convoy was attacked with mines at about 10:00 pm on Tuesday. Reportedly, the junta army set fire to the nearby village of Chaingyi and arrested local people.
  • In Taze Township, the junta army set fire to Thabyeyin Village on Tuesday night. Reportedly, four houses were burnt down.
  • In Khin-U Township, a local PDF attacked the junta army camp in Ywathitgone Village on Tuesday night.
  • In Monywa, guns were fired in an attack on the junta investigation department on Tuesday morning.
  • In Kandy Township, 14 prisoners ran away from the local police detention center, but five of them have been re-captured. Reportedly, one of them died during their interrogation by the junta.
  • The junta army fired from six helicopters, dropped a large number of the junta armed forces and invaded the area on the border of Pale Township and Yinmabin Townshipat at about 10:00 am on Wednesday
  • Due to the oppression in Pakkoku Prison, all the prisoners, including political ones, have been on hunger strike. Reportedly, the staff members have been beating the prisoners and some injured ones have been in critical conditions.
  • In Myaing Township in Magwe Region, the junta Pyu Saw Htee members from Kanni Village have been firing wildly at harvest time. Consequently, local farmers have had to run away.
  • In Natmauk Township, the junta army set fire to Fettawye Village again on Tuesday night.
  • On Wednesday, the Mandalay Monks’ Union led an anti-junta movement, reciting Parittas.
  • After the junta township administrator was shot dead in Wandwin in Mandalay Region, all non-CDM staff have been worried. Reportedly, some of them have resigned and some others have run away.
  • In Madayar Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines near Tidawmoe Village on Tuesday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Aungmye Thazan Township, Chit Ko Ko, allegedly the leader of the Thwethaught Group in Mandalay and the junta informer-in-chief, was shot at for the second time on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, he was not injured.
  • In Ngazun Township, the junta army opened fire on the entrance to Kula Ywagyi Village at about 9:00 pm on Monday and discarded the dead bodies of five people with their hands tied at the back.
  • In Myingyan District, local PDFs conducted an attack with 150 mines on the junta army. Reportedly, 52 junta soldiers died within 67 days.
  • In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, a retired policeman was shot dead in Thabya Village on Tuesday morning.
  • In Zalun Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a CDM high school teacher was killed at his house in Kyonesha Village at about 7:00 pm on Monday.
  • In Yay Township in Mon State, Ko Thiha Nay Soe, a spokesperson for the Mon State Revolution Organization, died in the battle at Palaingi Crossroads on Monday.
  • In Muse Township in Shan north, a military officer was shot dead at close range by unknown gunmen in Tonekan Village on Tuesday afternoon. Reportedly, the junta army blocked off the whole town of Muse for inspections.
  • In Maingbyin Township in Shan east, there was a mine explosion at Myoma Market on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, a woman was injured.
  • In Myawaddy in Kayin State, a car with the mine was found in front of the Linthiri Department Store at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday.
  • There has been a fund-raising campaign for the interim students in Karenni State. Reportedly, they have set a target of raising 3,000 lakh MMK.
  • In Karenni State, Mobye PDF Brigade (2) successfully conducted a week-long basic military training Batch (5).
  • On Tuesday, the Saffron Sayardaw Ashin Htawara (Norway) received the Non-Violent Peace Award from The Mahatma MK Gandhi Foundation in India.
  • In New York in the United States, ‘The Road Not Taken’ directed by Director Ko Pauk will be shown from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on 22 October.

Ethnic Armed Organisations

  • In Myawaddy Township under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (6), a military officer from the junta army invading the Myawaddy-Wawlay Road was shot dead by a sniper on Wednesday morning.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, a combination of local defence forces attacked the junta army stationed in Thesule Village at 6:00 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, a junta soldier died and five others were injured.
  • On the Myawaddy-Kawkarait-Asia Road in Kayin State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and a combined force of the KNLA + PDFs on Wednesday morning.
  • In Duplaya District under KNU Brigade (6) and Duthatone District under KNU Brigade (1), the junta army conducted air strikes on local villages on Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, they also set fire to a village.
  • In Indaw Township in Sagaing Region, there was a battle between the junta armed forces and a combined force of the KIA+PDFs on Tuesday. Reportedly, the military junta suffered great losses there and they even had to use the support of their air force.
  • An officer from Cobra Troop said that they would put an end to the junta army within two years.
  • In an interview with People Spring, the KNU spokesperson said that the condition of the junta army was progressively worsening.

The Military Council

  • In the meeting with SME business owners in Mon State, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that along with the driving force of the economy, the political and defence sectors would also improve.
  • At the 23rd Myanmar Traditional Performance Competition, the junta leader said that it the competition is a cultural pillar in the process of eternal peace.
  • The Myanmar Rice Federation instructed 62 companies to import 141,860 bags of rice in a timely manner to be used as rations for the junta army.
  • According to the junta Embassy on Wednesday, they have been helping Myanmar people who are having troubles in Middle East countries.
  • According to the junta trade department, they earned 6 billion USD from the export of industrial products in the first six months of the 2022-23 fiscal year.
  • The military junta instructed 29 industrial zones in Yangon Region to send a list of the names of banks used by factories in the industrial zones.
  • After a bomb explosion at the parcel department in Insein Prison, the parcel department in Mandalay’s Obo Prison was closed from Wednesday afternoon.
  • From May to 16 October, over 57,000 Myanmar MoU workers went to Thailand under an MoU between the two countries.
  • According to the junta newspaper, all courses at Technological Universities and Computer Universities will be opened from November for the 2022-23 academic year.
  • In Yathaytaung Township in Rakhine State, the junta army shot mortars at Pyaingtaw Village for no apparent reason on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, a female student died.
  • The military junta ordered that from Tuesday, the Sittway-Pauktaw High-Speed Waterway would be closed indefinitely.

Summary on 20 October

  • In Sagaing Region, Magwe Region, Kayin State and Karenni State, there have been daily battles between the junta armed forces and local defence forces.
  • In the areas where there have been many revolutionary activities, the military junta has been conducting air strikes and burning villages. Consequently, a large number of local people have had to run away and some of them were injured by gunfire.
  • Throughout the country, the military junta has been deliberately killing civilians. They have been openly committing war crime.
