Spring Revolution Daily News for 19 February 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • In Bangkok of Thailand, a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Labor-NUG met with the AAC Alliance as well as the LPN Foundation and encouraged Myanmar workers. 
  • On Friday, Ministry of Education-NUG stated their recognition for the education boards from 13 townships. 
  • At 9:00 am Saturday, there was a meeting (7/2023) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and People’s Administrative Teams from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Monywa of Sagaing Region, there was an attack using a rocket launcher on the immigration office at about 3:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • On Saturday, Taze Township General Strike marched against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Wetlet Township, the junta army fired mortars into Htonebogone Village at 7:00 pm Friday. Reportedly, a house was hit and damaged. 
  • In Yinmabin North, there was a rally against the military dictatorship on Saturday morning. 
  • In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin, in cooperation with from the People to the People Group, provided food and kitchen utensils to local fire victims. 
  • In Kani Township, there was a sitting strike against the military dictatorship in memory of Comrade Ko Aung Sein Tun who had lost his life in the Myatheindan Battle. 
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army has invaded Theinyinse Area for 5 consecutive days. On Friday, they arrested 2 members of a local PDF near Kaingyoe Village and killed them by burning them alive. 
  • In Khin-U Township, there was a march in memory of the PDF members who had lost lives in Legwinbyin Battle last year. 
  • In Yangon Region, Basic Education Students’ Unions (Central) from Hlaingthaya Township and Insein Township conducted an anti-junta movement on Saturday, hanging a banner - ‘Bravely walk along the bloody road of thousands of martyrs’. 
  • On Friday, Dawbone Township Basic Education Students’ Union (Central) made a movement against the military dictatorship, themed – ‘Except for emotional ties, there is nothing else to lose’. 
  • In Maha Aungmye Township of Mandalay Region, Zaw Win Tun, a hundred-household leader in Shwe Bone Shein Ward, was shot dead at about 4:00 pm Friday. According to Aungsidaw Operation, a gun was confiscated from him together with bullets, some money and a phone. 
  • On Saturday, a rally of anti-junta monks protested against the military dictatorship. 
  • In Yetashay Township of Bago Region, the junta armed forces set fire to public’s houses in Zayityoegone Village and Pintthila Village on Friday morning. 
  • In Myeik Township of Taninthayi Region, the PDFs raided an inspection gate of the junta army on the crossroads of Toneyawgyi Village on Friday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Hpakant of Kachin State, local people led a march against the military dictatorship on Saturday. They also expressed their support for the KIA, PDF and NUG. 
  • According to the focal person of Urban Task Force Aung Ban, one of their camps was damaged due to a strong wind in Shan South on Friday. 
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 3000 people have lost lives until 17 February due to the killing of the junta armed forces since the military coup. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • On Chin National Day, Chin National Organization/ Chin National Defence Force stated that they are to aspire for the reconciliation of Chin people while avoiding the implementation of ethnic-based administration which derails from democracy. 
  • In Fruso Township of Karenni State, there was an attack on the junta army stationing in Markayawshay Village on their way to fetch water at about 11:00 pm Wednesday. According to the KNDF Regiment (15), a junta soldier died and many others might have been injured. 

The Military Council 

  • In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Myanmar-Russia diplomacy, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing sent a statement to the President of Russia. Vice Versa, Mr. Vladimir Putin did the same to him. 
  • The military junta announced that Dr. Hmu Tan, Chair of Chin State Union Solidarity and Development Party, had been substituted for Pugint Kamlyan, a member of the Military Council. 
  • The military junta announced that U Aye Kyaw had been appointed as Deputy Minister of Electricity. 
  • On Friday, there was a meeting between National Unity and Peace Coordination Committee under the military junta and the Working Group of Political Parties in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • According to the junta propaganda team, their security forces managed to rescue 13 people, who had been arrested by the members of local armed groups and detained in a house of Kade Village in Pulaw Township of Taninthayi Region, on Thursday afternoon. 
  • Reportedly, the military junta has been arming ward administrators without the need to apply for carrying firearms. 
  • According to the sources from the Army and Ministry of Home Affairs, each family member of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and the other military generals has got 3 passports and 3 National Registration Card-NRCs under different names despite the suspension of issuing passports to the general public. 
  • The junta army ordered all the soldiers and their family members to participate in the junta propaganda groups on Facebook and Telegram. They also forced them to share the junta news and articles without fail. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Construction, 53% of the construction for Myanmar-Korea Friendly Dhala Bridge has been completed and it will be fully done by January 2024. 
  • According to some administrators, the military junta instructed the collection of 2 lakh MMK from each ward in Yangon to set up pandals and hold fun fairs in Thingyan Festival. 
  • In Kyaukbadaung of Mandalay Region, a township level police officer was teaching a junta immigration officer how to shoot at a tea shop on 12 February. During this process, hit the immigration officer. 
  • On Saturday, the Food and Drug Administration Department under the junta Health Ministry issued the list of 37 food items which are not suitable to eat. 
  • According to the junta Ministry of Immigration and Population, the foreigners who come to Myanmar on Business E-Visa can extend their stay online. 
  • The junta Ministry of Trade and Commerce stated that 100,000 tons of onions would be exported in 2023-24 fiscal year. 

Summary on 18 February 

  • In place of an experienced Chin ethnic politician who had been listed by force as a member of the military council, a USDP member was substituted. Judging from this, it can be seen that dignified politicians are not willing to join hands with the military junta. 
  • In terms of international diplomacy, the military junta has been isolated. They have been on good terms only with Russia and they have to rely on that country alone.
