The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The 4 th Union Parliament Meeting was held on Monday. Present on the occasion were the NUG Acting President and Union Prime Minister delivering speeches in honor of the one-year anniversary of their government.
  • In the speech on Monday, the NUG Acting President pledged that they would rebuild people’s houses, which had been burnt down by the military junta, after the victory of the revolution.
  • In the report on the one-year anniversary of the NUG, the Union Prime Minister stated that with three military regions, the PDFs had been able to influence (15%) of the whole country and ethnic armed organizations had been able to control (30%).
  • The NUG Union Prime Minister said that nearly 10,000 members of the junta armed forces had joined the public and there were also many others sending information to them.
  • In the 4 th Union Parliament on Monday, U Aung Kyi Nyunt, the Patron of the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw, said that the effort of the military junta to trigger fear based on violence was in vain because of the People’s Defensive War and Spring Revolution Forces.

Revolutionary Activities

  • In Berlin, Myanmar people in Germany showed their support for the NUG government on the one-year anniversary of the NUG and protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday.
  • In South Dagon’s Myothit Township in Yangon Region, there was gunfire at the junta administration office of Ward (107) at about 2:00 pm on Monday. Reportedly, a hundred-household leader died and two others were injured.
  • In South Dagon Township, Saw Moe Win, a former military officer and manager at the Global Treasure Bank Branch, was shot dead at 8:30 am Monday. 
  • In Thanlyin Township, a motorbike taxi driver was shot dead near Phayagone Traffic Lights at about 11:30 am Monday.
  • According to a representative of the Kyaukse Guerrilla Force, they let off incendiary bombs at a junta checkpoint on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway at about 2:00 am on Monday.
  • In Tilin Township in Magwe Region, the YDF Commando attacked five police members on patrol near Yemyetni Village at about 8:30 am Monday. Reportedly, a junta policeman died
  • and another one was injured.
  • In Pauk Township, the junta police and Pyusawti raided Kimma Village on Monday afternoon and set fire to the village for the third time.
  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Monday, holding signs for unity.
  • In Ayadaw Township, youth and local people recited Thingyan slogans against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • According to Chaung-U PDF, the funeral of five PDF members, who were killed by the junta armed forces while protecting a rally of protesters in Monywa Township, was well-organized at 9:30 am Monday.
  • In Kyunghla Township, the junta army which had been stationed in Konesi Village for seven days, set fire to the village on Monday morning.
  • In Monywa Township, youths from the Basic Education Students’ Union hung a banner saying ‘Uproot the money source of the junta army’ in front of Denko Gas Station.
  • In Butalin Township, local people marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In the south of Kani, KLG PDF attacked the junta army and Pyu Saw Htee near Alegyun Village on Sunday night. Reportedly, there might have been many casualties.
  • In Tamu, the CDM Police Force confiscated a motorbike owned by Captain Wunna Phyo from the junta army at Nanphalone Traffic Lights on Monday evening.
  • In Yinmabin District, there was an attack with 2 projectiles on Pale Township Police Station at about 11:00 pm Saturday. Reportedly, there was an exchange of fire. At about 7:00 am Sunday, a military car and four motorbikes were attacked with four mines on the Pale-Gantgaw Road.
  • In Tamu, a local PDF Commando conducted a surprise attack on the junta forces stationed in Nanphalone Affiliated High School at 7:00 pm on Sunday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers died.
  • In Minkin Township, an alliance of local PDFs attacked the junta army and Pyu Saw Htee stationed in Kyaw Village on Saturday and Sunday. Reportedly, no less than five members of the junta armed forces died.
  • In a village in Shwebo Township, there was a march for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Monday.
  • In Kyunghla Township, local PDF and administration teams confiscated a sawmill paying taxes to the military junta and over 120 logs on 4 and 6 April.
  • In Salingyi Township, a rally of local people from three villages, PDFs and Monywa University Students’ Union marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday evening.
  • At 6:45 pm on Saturday, a Special Guerrilla Force exploded bombs at the pandals of USDP Headquarters and the City Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.
  • In Shwetaung Township in Bago Region, Aung Ko Zaw, a junta air force pilot, was shot on his way to his hometown at 8:30 am on Sunday.
  • In Waw Township, a PDF exploded a bomb in front of the house of U Myint Soe, a junta informer and former reporter for the Mirror Newspaper, in Ayechan Thaya Ward at 7:00 pm on Sunday.
  • In Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, youths led a protest against the military dictatorship somewhere in the Nabule Area on Monday.
  • Somewhere in Longlone Township, the LL- PDF conducted a mine attack on a military car on night patrol on Saturday.
  • In Pulaw Township, youths and PDF members held a motorbike protest against the military dictatorship.
  • In Tanintharyi Township, a PDF caught a junta soldier named Aung Kyaw Oo in possession of illegal drugs, in Taku Village, at about 3:00 pm on 5 April.
  • In Hopone in Shan South, there was an anti-junta demonstration where the coffin of junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was ritually burned.
  • In Shan North, the junta army questioned police officers on Monday morning after a leak of information related to the investigation of a local PDF leader in Naungcho Township.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • In Duplaya District under the control of KNU Central, travel was limited to the hours of 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, starting from Monday.
  • In Demoso Township in Karenni State, the KNDF announced that the junta army destroyed people’s houses and rice on Saturday. 
  • According to the Mutraw Newsletter on Saturday, two members of the junta Border Guard Force joined KNU Brigade (5), together with their weapons.
  • On Sunday, the junta army sent a letter to the KNU, threatening that they would destroy all the villages near Kwilone Camp if blocked streams in the area under KNU Brigade (6) were not reopened within 3 days.
  • KNU Farm and Land Committee announced on 14 April that certificates of official recognition had been provided for 5 areas where indigenous Karen people could administer themselves.
  • At 9:45 am on Sunday, the junta army fired mortars at a local PDF base in the east of Pekone. Reportedly, those mortars fell and exploded outside Lwepaw Village and there were no casualties.

The Military Council

  • According to Yangon Regional Power Supply, they had provided non-stop electricity to the Yangon Region during the Thingyan holidays. Reportedly, there would be rationing of power supplies and rolling blackouts again, starting from Monday.
  • The junta’s Rakhine State Government attended the 58 th Traditional Paying Homage Ceremony to the Elderly in Sittway.
  • According to the junta newspaper, the military junta conducted an event of reciting Parittas at the junta leader office on the first day of the New Year.
  • According to the lawyer, Ko Min Ko Oo, the Chair of the Taunggoke Youth Network who had been accused of supporting PDFs, was released on Monday.
  • In Mandalay, decorated carts were awarded by the military junta over Thingyan. Reportedly, the junta municipal department demanded the prize money back. 

Summary on 19 April

  • The NUG increased the momentum of the revolution. It also invited members of the junta armed forces to join the CDM, saying that instead of taking taxpayers money they should join the public. At the same time, the NUG took action against junta leaders.
  • In recent days, PDFs conducted more attacks on the junta armed forces throughout the country. In every battle, the military junta faced great losses. As for PDFs, they also suffered some casualties.
