Security guard injured in Wakema Township bank bomb blast

A security guard was injured when a mine exploded outside the state-owned Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank in Wakema Township, in Ayeyarwady Region at 3:30 p.m. on 2 April.

The attack was carried out by the Ayeyarwady Dolphin People’s Defence Force (PDF). The group said it carried out the attack because the bank manager and staff had threatened to confiscate farmers’ land if they missed agricultural loan repayments due to the bank.

Ayeyarwady Dolphin PDF said the attack was part of the Nan Htike Aung offensive which targets junta administrations and their affiliates.

“As the bank is close to a public road we decided to carry out the detonation early in the morning, so as to not hurt civilians. One security guard was injured”, said a representative from Ayeyarwady Dolphin PDF.

He also said that junta troops and police officers arrived and searched the area of the blast, but by that time all the PDF fighters had safely retreated without suffering any injuries.

At the time of reporting junta police and soldiers were still monitoring the bank branch and inspecting CCTV footage from cameras in the area. Locals claimed they were also making arbitrary arrest
