Pro-junta civilians demonstrate in Pathein against US and UN

According to Pathein Town residents, on 29 December, more than 20 people demonstrated in front of the golf course on Mahabandula Road, Ward No. 3, Pathein Town in the Ayeyarwaddy Region against the United States’ National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the United Nations Security Council.

According to a person close to the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), it was organized by people who were recruited with daily allowances by members of the USDP.

"Prop-military supporters and USDP members are smart. They do not take part in the protest themselves. The executive members of the USDP Party who work at the USDP office in (15) Ward, gave money to unemployed people in order to protest against the NDAA. Protesters have no idea what the United Nations or the National Defense Authorization Act are,” a local resident said.

According to some residents who live near the golf course, the Military Council soldiers and policemen provided security for the protest.

Pro-military supporters also held a protest against the NDAA in front of the US Embassy on University Avenue Road and in front of the British Embassy on Strand Road in Yangon on 28 December.

US President Joe Biden approved the NDAA 2023 on 23 December, including the 'BURMA Act of 2022' related to Myanmar.
