At around 5:00 p.m. on 12 June a hand grenade was thrown at Lewe Police Station in Lewe Township in Naypyidaw Union Territory.

There was no exchange of fire, but the grenade explosion killed a police officer and injured two more, one of whom was a Police inspector, according to local news media.

On the morning of 13 June, a Lewe resident said: “We overheard a rumor that Lewe will be under martial law starting at 9:00 pm. We also learned that shops and stores would close early on 12 June. Right now, everything is normal in Lewe Township. No unusual events are taking place.”

Later the same day, 12 June there was another grenade attack in Naypyidaw Union territory at the junta guard post at the entrance to the Myanmar International Convention Center (MICC-2) in Zabuthiri Township.

Though security for the capital Naypyidaw, where the junta is headquartered, and the surrounding areas, has increased since the coup, the number of attacks in Naypyidaw Union Territory have increased.
