Myanmar junta convoy attacked on Yinmarbin to Salingyi road in Sagaing Region

One junta soldier was killed and another four were injured when local resistance forces attacked three military trucks on the Yinmarbin to Salingyi road in Sagaing Region at 9:30 a.m. on 30 September.

The convoy of three military trucks and about 70 soldiers, was travelling from the Wanbao mining company in Sagaing’s Salingyi Township to Shwe Taung U in Yinmarbin Township, also in Sagaing. It was returning from having escorted a delivery of copper from Shwe Taung U to Wanbao.

During its return journey, the soldiers in the military convoy spotted mines that the defence forces had planted, so they stopped and fired their guns at the mines to detonate them. Whilst the soldiers were doing this the defence forces fired six rounds from their improvised heavy artillery.

"To attract the attention of the junta soldiers, we first planted mines, and then we unexpectedly attacked with heavy artillery.  The improvised heavy artillery struck one of the military trucks, partially destroying it and filling the vehicle with smoke”, said an official from One Star Task Force (OSTF), one of the defence forces involved in the attack.

According to OSTF one junta soldier was killed, four were injured and one military truck was damaged.

Wanbao is a Chinese mining company engaged in the exploration and production of mineral resources as well as the processing and smelting of mineral ores in collaboration with the military-owned Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd.

Local defense forces from Salingyi and Yinmarbin townships have been telling Wanbao to halt copper mining operations since May, but they have not. Instead, the junta has just increased security at the mine and for Wanbao.

The attack on the military convoy was jointly carried out by OSTF, the Moe Thout Kyal Force, Killer United and the Fighter Brother Force.
