On 26 May, Myanmar Pressphoto Agency (MPA) video journalist Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun, who was seriously injured in the head when Military Council soldiers drove a car into peacefully protesting youth, was sentenced to 10 years in prison under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law by Thingangyun District Court.

"I can't believe it, a 10-year prison sentence. This is excessive. She needs to be well,” a family member told Mizzima.

On 5 December, 2021, approximately 15 protesters were arrested after Military Council soldiers drove into peacefully protesting youths and arrested them on Pan Pin Gyi Road in Kyee Myin Daing Township.

She was arrested in the incident and received serious injuries to her head and legs.

"She is in good health, but she still has injuries. Three bones in her left leg were broken during the incident, so she had steel bones replaced so she could walk with crutches," said a family member.

She was charged in December 2021 by the Kyimyindaing Police station under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code, and the Insein Prison Court gave her a three-year prison term.

In addition, after she was detained in connection with the incident, Tamwe Township Police Station filed a lawsuit in the Thingungyun District Court in September 2022 against her under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

She has now received a total of 13-years in prison after being given a 10-year sentence on 26 May under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

"She will not continue to appeal. Her mother and sister were also presented in the courtroom on 26 May, so they will not file an appeal as per the wish of Hmue Yadanar Khet Moh Moh Tun," a lawyer working on the case told Mizzima.

Additionally, it is said that on 27 May, she will undergo a medical examination at Insein Public Hospital to determine whether the steel rod that was inserted into her severely injured leg is compatible with the tissues.
