Junta signals unit attacked with 60mm mortars

Joint defence forces killed at least three junta soldiers when they attacked the junta Northwestern Military Command Workshop and Signal Unit with 60mm mortars on 2 July.

The attack happened in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Township at about 8:30 p.m., on 2 July.

A company commander of the Myanmar Royal Dragon Army (MRDA), one of the defence forces involved in the attack, said: “We had prepared for two days to attack Northwestern Military Command Workshop and Signal Unit. Both sides exchanged fire for about 20 minutes. According to information from our scout three Military Council soldiers were killed in the attack.”

He also said that the junta soldiers from the Signals unit were carrying out mine clearance operations near the Northwestern Military Command.

This is the first time in July that 60mm mortars have been fired at soldiers from the junta’s Northwestern Military Command, according to the MRDA, which said that it will continue attacking junta outposts and checkpoints in Monywa.

The defence forces who carried out the mortar attack were the MRDA and the Royal Tiger Force.
