The Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) is calling for the release of DVB journalist Aung San Lin who was sentenced on Thursday to six years in prison with hard labour by Wetlet Township Court in Sagaing Region.

DVB reports that the 47-year-old reporter, arrested without a warrant on 11 December 2021, received two years imprisonment under Section 505(a) and four under Section 52(b) of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
 
DVB has learned that he will be sent to Shwebo Prison, yet has not been provided with a definitive date.

Over 120 journalists were arrested following the military coup, with over 70 so far released. Four have so far been killed, one under military interrogation, and around 30 are being held within Myanmar’s prison system, DVB reports.

Most of those detained have been charged under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code — the military’s new wide-reaching sedition law — and Section 50(a) of Myanmar’s Anti-Terrorism Law.
