DRPA to draft law for justice in PDF-controlled areas of Sagaing

The Dictatorship Revolution People’s Army (DRPA) will draft a law to establish justice in PDF-controlled areas in the battle-scarred Sagaing Region, according to a recent report.

DRPA says laws will be drafted to build an administrative system in the areas under the control of the revolutionary groups, including the DRPA in Sagaing.

According to an official of DRPA, the revolutionary groups are currently attempting to establish constitutions for public services and judicial systems in some areas of Sagaing Region.

''There is still no judiciary system in some PDF-controlled areas in Sagaing Region. We have to start from the community level. We are trying to make it a structure,” an official of DRPA told Mizzima.

In addition, we are planning to draft a law with the participation of law experts.

“In order to become a fully-liberated region, the judiciary must be developed. We are still discussing with legal professionals,” the DRPA official said.

After the military coup, the army brutally cracked down on pro-democracy activists, and the people opted for armed resistance. At present, in addition the resistance groups formed by the National
Unity Government (NUG), various forces have emerged and have moderate control over certain areas.

Naing Htoo Aung, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the NUG told Mizzima in April that more than 10 per cent of Myanmar's territory is now under the control of People's Defense
Forces (PDF).
