Drone attack on police station in Myanmar’s Myawaddy border town kills officers

An acting commander and district general administration officer were among five killed in drone attack of joint resistance forces in Myawaddy border town in Kayin State on 3 September night.

The joint forces, with the support of Brigade 6 Karen National Liberation Army, carried out the first drone attack with two bombs on district police station of Myawady township, killed five persons including Acting Commander Major Aung Kyaw Min and District General Administration Department Officer Soe Tin.

The second drone attack with two more bombs occurred when district police officer and a security team were inspecting the incident around 7:30 pm. This second attack killed a police officer, staff officer of GAD and a senior clerk of GAD.

Five persons were seriously injured, and the remaining six received minor injuries in these attacks.

A member of resistance force who took part in the attacks said, “We carried out drone attacks. Five were killed, and a total of 16 police and soldiers were reportedly injured in these attacks.”

The area near the police station experienced a blackout after the attack.

“Three ambulance cars rushed into the police station compound after the incidents. Military and BGF members are tightening security in the town,“ a local resident told Mizzima.
