Death toll in Pazigyi village massacre reaches 165, casualties likely to increase

The death toll in the Myanmar junta aerial attack in Pazigyi village, Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region has reached 165 as of the night of 12 April.

Dr Shwe Pone, the deputy minister for health under the National Unity Government (NUG), posted on her social media page, “Update on 12 April 2023: the death toll in Pazigyi village of Kantbalu Township is 165.”

Kyaw Wunna, a rescue worker at the attacked site, told Mizzima that they have suspended their rescue work as the military’s jet fighter were flying over that area for inspection and there is possible offensive attack of its ground forces.

He added that the rescue team has collected the data for only two-thirds of the Pazigyi village until 12 April night, and casualty list is expected to increase after they received data from nearby villages.

At least 50 people were also injured in the attack that took place on the morning of 11 April.

The UN Security Council reportedly held a closed-door meeting on the Pazigyi incident on 13 April morning.
