Call charges and internet data price increase

Four telecom operators in Myanmar have announced plans to increase their call charge and internet data prices on December 8.

Prior to the change, the news of the internet data price increase was circulating on social media on December 3, and a staff member who works for a mobile operator told Mizzima on condition of anonymity that it would become a reality.

"There is only one reason for this increase in internet data prices and call charges. Nowadays, people know very well how to make money on the internet and how to connect. It's deliberately slowing it (internet) down. Wi-Fi is not yet available in every home. There are still internet data users. There are a lot of people in our country who can't even afford to spend a thousand kyat on phone bills. Knowing people have a hard time, they (military junta) are making people’s life difficult. It is true that we are disturbed by their evil ways, but I would like to ask our people not to stop their work. If we win this fighting quickly, we will all be free."
