Bomb explodes at power supply authority office in downtown Yangon

A bomb explosion took place at the office of electricity distribution management office on Strand Road in Lanmadaw Township, downtown Yangon, on 9 July morning.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. and no injury was reported.

“The bomb exploded loudly, and the roof of the office building was damaged. Security forces are inspecting public buses on the roads nearby,” said a local resident.

Authorities are collecting electricity bills while the residents have refused to pay it in protest against the military regime. In return, power distribution officials have cut the electricity supply to the houses.

The bomb attacks are likely to be in revenge for the actions of the authorities, according to observers.

The attack happened after two explosions occurred at the power supply management office in Tamwe Township, Yangon, on 7 July
