Swine Flu is a new strain of virus derived from four different genes. It will take six months to produce a vaccine. And it will take more time for mass production of the vaccine. It can be transmitted through contact with infected pigs and can be transmitted from man to man like the deadly SARS virus that spread rapidly in the past. Symptoms of Swine Flu
Having high fever, sneezing, cough and cold, uneasiness and aches, headache, exhaustion and breathing trouble.
Do's
Take rest at home when the above mentioned symptoms are in evidence and visit a hospital and clinic if necessary. Patients must visit hospitals and clinics to see a doctor when severe signs and symptoms of Swine Flu are found such as high fever, prolonged cough, exhaustion and breathing trouble.
Some musts –
1. Use handkerchief when sneezing and coughing
2. Wash hands thoroughly with soap
3. Take care of personal hygiene
4. Take good rest and try and have sound sleep
5. Take nutritious food
6. Exercise regularly
7. Ensure good cross-ventilation at home
Patients suspected to be infected with Swine Flu and their attendants should use gloves and surgical masks.
Do's for pig farmers, pork traders and consumers of pork meat
1. Separate the pigs with suspected signs of fever and keep them away from human beings 2. Wash hands and legs thoroughly after each day's work at pig farm 3. Use gloves and surgical masks at work 4. Do not put the infected pigs in the market 5. Don’t trade the pigs from unknown sources especially the ones brought through border crossing 6. Heat all pork meat and pork products up to 70· C and above when cooking
