Background
The National Democratic Alliance Army-Eastern Shan State (NDAA-ESS), is a ceasefire rebel group based in Mongla. It was formed in 1989 after troops separated from the former Communist Party of Burma (CPB) and still maintains close ties with other groups that used to make up the CPB: MNDAA, UWSA and the NDAK

The NDAA is led by Sai Leun aka U Sai Lin aka Lin Mingxian (63) a former commander in the Communist Party of Burma (CPB).
