Aung San Suu Kyi has added to her list of honors received in absentia, being acknowledged by a group of British academics for her longstanding fight for political justice and democracy in Burma.

"Her persistent championing of the cause of democracy in Burma has been at huge personal cost Aung San Suu Kyi has become an international symbol of resistance via her principled leadership of the National League for Democracy in Burma," reads an awards booklet published by the Political Studies Association (PSA) of the United Kingdom.

The PSA aims to tie the academic world of political science with current events and those partaking in and covering political happenings.

Zoya Phan of the Burma Campaign UK accepted the award on behalf of the detained Suu Kyi.
