Chiang Mai (mizzima news) - Burma’s main Opposition party – the National League for Democracy – has promised to gift Kyat 20,000 (USD 20) to anyone, who brings back the party flag, which they released along with a hot-air balloon, to commemorate party leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s 64th  birthday.

The NLD on Friday, held birthday celebrations for detained Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi at the party head office, in Rangoon’s Bahan Township, by releasing birds, and a hot-air balloon along with the party flag.

“We tied our party flag to the hot-air balloon and we have written on it that we will reward Kyat 20,000 to any person, who gets the flag and returns it to us,” Dr. Win Naing, a member of the NLD’s information department, told Mizzima.

During the event, the party reiterated its call for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners. The party concluded the first part of the function with a song, “Someday she will be released,” and collected donations for children of political prisoners.

Similarly, party members and supporters also held birthday celebrations in Irrawaddy, Mandalay and Magwe Divisions and in Kachin and Shan states.

Meanwhile, Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, is currently being detained at Rangoon’s notorious Insein prison and is undergoing a trial. After the trial, if found guilty, she could be sentenced upto five years in prison.
