Earthquake hits Kachin State: no damage

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Burma’s far northern Kachin state early Tuesday morning, but there were no reports of casualties, according to the Seismological Bureau, Meteorological Department of Thailand.

There were no reports of death or injuries. The Bureau said that the quake occurred at 3.13 a.m.

The tremor, at a depth of 40 kilometres, was located 690 kilometres from Thailand's Mae Fa Luang District of Chiang Rai, it said.

There was no report of any impact from the quake in Thailand.

The Kachin’s last stand
Since October this year, Burma has been in a state of civil war, with fighting between Burmese military and armed ethnic rebels. The ruling junta started a crackdown on these armed groups.
