Another rebel attack in India’s Northeast

Separatist guerrillas responsible for killing 18 Indian soldiers last week have struck again.
Officials said 25 to 30 rebels of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland’s Khaplang faction attacked a camp of the para-military Assam Rifles on Sunday at Lazu in the country's Arunachal Pradesh state bordering Myanmar.
“But our troops were alert and fought them. The rebels fled after a counter-attack,” said an Indian military official.
He said no casualties were reported on either side.
The Khaplang faction reneged on its ceasefire with India in March and formed a coalition of separatist forces called UNLFSWEA in April with rebel groups from other northeastern states.
Since then, there has been anupsurge in rebel attacks on Indian forces. Thirty soldiers from army and para-military units have died so far in these attacks.
India has ordered a massive counter insurgency operation after last Thursday's attack in Manipur in which 18 soldiers of the 6th Dogra regiment were killed.
The chief minister of Manipur,OkramIbobi Singh, has asked Delhi to persuade Myanmar to act against the rebels who are based in Sagaing Division.
