Naw Ohn Hla, who is known in Burma for visiting Shwedagon Pagoda every Tuesday to pray for the release of Noble Laureate and democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, was arrested by the military junta and spirited away this afternoon.

She left her house in Shwepyithar Township today and was arrested near her home on her way to Shwedagon Pagoda to pray for the release of all political prisoners including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and those arrested for protesting against the recent fuel price hike. Township PDC Chairman, Swanah Shin and USDA members accounting for about 200 persons arrested her at noon today.

"She was holding a bunch of flowers at the time. The local authorities intercepted her on her way to the pagoda and arrested her. There were many onlookers and passersby. We don't know her whereabouts," an eyewitness told Mizzima.

The regime usually hinders and harasses people who go to pagodas in Rangoon every Tuesday to pray for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who has been under house arrest since the May 30, 2003 Depayin massacre. The regime harasses people in many ways such as arresting and using its goons to take pot shots with catapult.
