Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary of India's Home Ministry in charge of the Northeast, said Delhi was alarmed by the recent ambush of Assam Rifles soldiers. 
“We have to increase security in the unfenced border region because separatist rebels are freely moving back and forth and attacking our forces," Garg told Mizzima during a recent visit to the Northeastern state of Tripura.
 “Northeast India's seven states have international borders and Myanmar is the most sensitive border at this moment. There are certain issues like in Manipur where there was a large attack recently. So the government of India is working on a plan to increase security along the Indo-Myanmar border,” Garg told Mizzima.
He expressed his concern over Arunachal Pradesh being used as a corridor and safe shelter by armed rebels from Nagaland.
“Arunachal has faced the impact of insurgency from Nagaland. Certain areas of Arunachal are next to Nagaland and there is a real insurgency situation. We are addressing the problem of the corridors used by insurgents." 
Garg said that the Indian government is in touch with all neighbouring countries including Myanmar to stop the trans-border movement of arms, ammunition and of militants.
“The Government of India takes [the issue] up with everybody whether it is Bangladesh, Myanmar, China or Bhutan, everywhere there are strategic interests,” said Garg.
He said that to bring long-lasting peace in the region the government of India has taken the initiative to continue peace talks with various insurgent groups in the region, for which there should be a congenial atmosphere.
Garg said, “The Government of India is talking to Naga insurgent group NSCN, Kuki groups and now operations have been suspended against a Meitei Manipuri rebel group also. We are reviewing the situation in Manipur on a regular basis and are hopeful that the situation will improve.”
