NGO highlights worsening situation of world press freedom

Looking back at a year of media freedom in decline in almost every part of the world, International Media Support marks World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2015 to underline the importance of independent and professional media in democratic development, according to their press release April 30.
IMS says that as conflicts evolve and authoritarian regimes tighten their grip people’s lives, the conditions for freedom of expression and media freedom have worsened throughout the year.
“Expression without fear of retribution has been the dominant theme in our #MyFreeExpression campaign leading up to World Press Freedom Day,” IMS says.
With contributions from journalists and human rights defenders from every corner of the world, including Myanmar opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the campaign shines a light on how people risk their lives and fear repression and censorship as they express themselves.
