Myanmar is one of 19 guest countries attending an Asia-Pacific marine security conference in Yogyakarta, Indonesia this week, according to the Jakarta Globe on March 30.
The Indonesian Maritime Security Agency or Bakamla and Australia’s Border and Custom Protection Service are hosting the sixth Maritime Security Desktop Exercise, an event aimed at enhancing cooperation on maritime security and maritime-resource protection. The event runs from March 30-April 1.
 “We’re hosting the sixth Maritime Security Desktop Exercise to work on greater cooperation in maritime security in the region,” Bakamla chief Vice Admiral D.A. Mamahit told Kompas.com. “We need to work together on strengthening maritime security cooperation and this is how we start.”
Country representatives are slated to discuss issues ranging from the South China Sea dispute and illegal fishing, to flows of illegal migrant workers.
Australia, Sri Lanka, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Maldives, Pakistan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Singapore, and India are countries participating in the exercise.
