US officials set for Myanmar visit

Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski will travel to Myanmar and the U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM) in Hawaii, January 17-21.
In a report issued January 14 from the US State Department newsroom, Assistant Secretary Malinowski will join Deputy Secretary Tony Blinken for meetings with senior government officials and continue on to Yangon for meetings with civil society representatives to discuss a wide range of human rights and governance issues, including the ongoing democratic transition, the national reconciliation process, and conditions in Rakhine State. 
Mr Malinowski will also host a public discussion with Myanmar entrepreneurs, journalists, and students on national identity, tolerance, and political transition in Myanmar.
