Heineken welcomed Arsenal legend and UEFA Champions League star Fredrik Ljungberg to Myanmar on March 25.
Ljungberg arrived in Yangon for the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, said to be the “world’s first fan-powered Trophy tour,” to take part in a series of fan-powered events and to hand over the prized UEFA Champions League Trophy to lucky super fans at the Shwe Htut Tin Arena on March 26.
Through the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, Heineken enables fans around the world to engage directly with the tournament and get closer to the iconic Trophy. Heineken invited Ljungberg to Myanmar to heighten the excitement among local football fans who have been vibrantly celebrating since the Trophy arrived.
“It is humbling to experience the passion of Myanmar fans who may not have been to a UEFA Champions League game but must have been closely following the competition on television,” said Ljungberg, an international footballer who played 65 matches and scored 14 goals in the UEFA Champions League.
Ljungberg spent most of his career at Arsenal where he competed and won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, scoring in two finals including the victory in 2002. He played as a winger for over 20 years and was Captain of the Swedish national football team until 2008.
“Given how popular football is in this country, this is a great chance to celebrate with friends and promote the UEFA values of fair play and respect,” Ljungberg added.
