Thura U Shwe Mann calls for international support

Thura U Shwe Mann the Speaker of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hlutta was written an open letter to the international community calling for support to address what he describes as an unprecedented flood situation.
The letter, dated 4 August, states that, “In order to save many lives of people in affected areas and to prevent further negative consequences of the flooding, urgent assistance of the International Community is needed.”
It continues, “I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the goodwill and concern of friendly nations, especially neighbouring countries and ASEAN countries. The timely contributions of China and Thailand are most appreciated.
The initiatives in addressing [the] flood situation of the UN. NGOs. INGOs and Civil Society are encouraging.
The role of the local and international media for the updated news and information is also appreciated. I welcome the petition at the Obama Administration Website for emergency helps to flood victims in Myanmar.”
The letter ends, “We fervently hope for the assistance of the international community for the flood victims as the current disaster occurred in Myanmar is very extensive and it is necessary to address collectively.”
