The South Korean government plans to take 30 Myanmar refugees currently in Thailand and grant them permanent settlement, in accordance with a U.N. agency program, the Yonhap News Agency reported on 21 September quoting officials.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees resettlement program transfers refugees living in temporary camps in an asylum country to another country that has agreed to admit them.
South Korea’s Ministry of Justice said it is currently reviewing eligible Myanmar refugees in Thailand’s Tak Province on the Thailand-Myanmar border and will bring them into the country in December.
Beneficiaries of the resettlement program will be granted F-2 visas and given the opportunity to learn Korean and receive job education for the first six to 12 months.
